Life is good - and busy at the moment. SALA (south australian living artists festival in Adelaide) is nearly over. Exhibitions are finishing, and work ready to be collected. Woof is one group show i was involved in, creating four (slightly ironic) portraits of tiny toy dogs against lolly coloured backgrounds.
There's a great Artist-in-residence program at the Parks Community Centre, supported by Port Adelaide Enfield Council - and if you haven't been there yet for a visit, then you're missing out. This is my 2nd year as one of 12 artists, and the annual SALA exhibition is still up, so pop out to Axis Gallery (Cowan St Angle Park) and have a look - maybe i'll be able to post some photos later. We are all very different artists, working in a variety of mediums and areas of interest. I'll have to find out how many of the others have blogs (i know there is at least one :) and create a list of links.
Part of being an AIR at the Parks is the chance to have a solo exhibition - I'm installing my latest body of work in Elbow Room Gallery on Friday 'deconstruction : reconstruction' - a photographic exploration of the architectural changes in the local area over the past couple of years. here is one image, and another. There will be a few drinks 7pm Wednesday 6 September, and a chance to chat about the work.
more about my experiences being an AIR later...
Very excited to be invited to be part of Con.cord 2/3 "an exhibition of the work of photo-based artists who are either presently associated or have been previously linked to the Photography Department at the South Australian School of Art, University of South Australia. The artists selected, range from emerging to established whom each represent different approaches to the photographic medium."
Exhibition from 25th August - 13th September
Opening: 31st August 5.30pm
I working on several community art projects, at various stages, while studying Community Cultural Development Graduate Diploma with CAN SA. Will expand on this topic later, as it is interesting to me working within two apparently divergent fields of the arts - fine arts exhibition practice, and community art projects.
This intro has turned into something not quite so brief...more soon.
